The Gitmo massage

Good morning, I hope you have all bounced back from the Mumbai blasts by now. Some have bounced back so high that they are not even sure if a blast really happened ! Kind of a reverse bungee jump.

If you are even remotely involved in a terror attack against the USA, this is what might happen to you:

If you are the prime accused in a terrorist attack in gods own country

Now, that is some deterrent to budding terrorists.

The Indian theater of the absurd is in full swing covered by the Indian Express in detail.
DMK turns jail into spa for Coimbatore terror accused

Some Highlights:

…, a team of 10 masseurs and four senior Ayurvedic doctors began their “high quality treatment” on Mahdani, who has been housed in the prison’s hospital wing since 2001

The 35-day treatment, which began on July 5, costs nearly Rs 50,000, said K G Raveendran, medical director of the Aryavaidya Chikiysalayam Research Institute

the Tamil Nadu government is using taxpayers’ money to pick up the bill for Mahdani’s “dhara” and “pizhichil”

On July 6, the DMK government quietly permitted Soofiya, Mahdani’s wife to sit in on her husband’s treatment for two hours as ayurvedic principles demanded that “someone close” to the patient administer the “internal” medicines.

So this is what happens when the police catch the entire gang who planned and perpetrated the blasts.

Remember that the most recent arrest is that of a Unani (I believe same as Ayurvedic) doctor. Any thoughts on this?

You are forgetting one basic difference- Al-Umma:Dead,

Lot of things we can learn from uncle sam;how-to-fight-terror is not one of them.

I see you’ve become the Bill ‘O Reily of the blogging world…one more voice of reason bites the dust.

Unani and Ayurvedic systems are very different. So no connection there.

This is a simple case of politicians creating an icon where none existed. Now the two parties Congress and CPI-M are riding a tiger in Kerala. Neither can alight without being eaten.

I did not say that we should do what the Americans are doing. I was just contrasting the vastly different messages the two responses are sending to *potential* terrorists.

Just this past weekend, five people were arrested in Coimbatore, they were caught with explosives, detonators, they were apparently targetting a hospital. I am not sure what you are trying to say when you claim Al Umma is dead. It can just resurface at any time in another name. Do we want another act of terror from them to remind us that they are still alive ?

Al Qaida may not be completed dead, but they have been totally devastated by the US response. They may resurface as another group or regroup as AlQaida over the next few years. Only time will tell. It is however very clear that their best days are over, their sheltering regime is gone.

Again, I am not suggesting that India must follow the lead of the USA, even if we had the national resolve and military power to do so.
