Deve Gowda turns secular

JD(S) refuses to bowl after batting a full innings.

Never mind that the BJP is the single largest party, they are communal. What is the guarantee they will maintain communal harmony ?

I have mentioned it before but the Indian “intelligentia” cannot look beyond catch-phrases.  All you have to do this throw these words in and completely make yourself immune to inspection. Its like Batmans suit.

I recall the cricket games we used to play with some older kids in the neighbourhood. We would spend the morning bowling to them and jumping over compound walls to retrieve the balls they would smash all over. When our turn came to bat, they would invariably walk off saying, “Match over!”. If we ended up batting first, they would change the rules to say that play would continue even after they won. We had to get them all out !!

The funny part was, we would still play with them even though we knew very well what would happen.

the Indian “intelligentia” cannot look beyond catch-phrases.

Nice try, but no cheese! If, as you said, BJP got into bed with this guy (and who could forget all the drama behind *that* ritual), this relationship deserves to be ‘consummated’ in the way it did.

Whining about “intelligentia” [sic] is sheer boilerplate. If the whole thing [I mean the HDK government] was built on an immoral act (in which BJP participated lustily), should the intelligentsia shed tears when it ends in another? Give me a break…

A thumbscrew can also be considered to be a manicure. The difference is in the degree, dont you think ?

A popular belief is that there can never be honour among thieves. I do not agree with that one bit. Even hit-men, mercenary soldiers, political goondas, bribe takers, are expected to keep their word. Local rowdies earn their stripes by carrying out their assignment as per the terms of engagement. Those who renege make it to the “rowdy hall of shame”.

So, even among scoundrels, there is an unspoken order to be maintained.
Honouring ones word, especially after the other party has honoured theirs is the most basic requirements for that order.

The Indian intelligentsia (thanks) really does not probe catch phrases. How many seek to explore the usage of words like “communal / secular / oppressed/ racist/ dream budget / ” ? You can say any of these words and walk out a winner from any difficult situation.

This is exactly what Kumaraswamy is doing. No one is going to call him out on the absurdity of him discovering that his partner was “communal” all along ?

If we have so many intelli-whatever folks and they are so cool and all, why is it that despite their favorite party being in power for more than 80% of time since independence we are still f’ed up? Why is it ok to whine about some things but not others? Do we have equal opportunity whining laws or not? Does a Dalit get to whine more or less? How about a Dalit lovin’ privileged dude? Does he get to whine more than an alleged Dalit hating privileged dude?

The problem is that in our country the intelli-whatever folks are acting like Bollywood producers. They are lazy and they are trying to internalize the American liberal playbook. Indeed many of them fatasize themselves to be Brad De’Long, Angelina Joley, Richard Dawkins etc.The ultimate efffect is pretty humorous.

    Hi

    Wow Wow

The good professor from the Sec-Soc stable seem to taken up the onus on himself to defend the ‘intelligenstia’.Like when he took umbrage at Barkha Dutt who she was upset that that intelligenstia’s “Secular Aghast” was not manifesting enough/frequently at “communal” situation in the country

    LOL

Now Prof give me a break.Unless you have unilaterally anointed yourself as the spokesperson of the “Intelligenstia’ universe

    RC
Great post. The JD(S)’s act was despicable even by the standards that politicans have set for themselves. The raising of “Communa’l’ bogey was ridiculous

Ilike this analogy of batting a full innings and refusing to bowl. Really cracked me up.

LOL professor Whoever mentioned YOU? Guilty conscience eh?

Anyway the farce is over.Rather than face a trust motion,Kumaraswamy has resigned.
