Reality Check India

Emergency in South Asia

Posted in Uncategorized by realitycheck on November 5, 2007

What is happening to our neighbourhood ?

For all its faults, at least India is not as messed up as its neighbours. Is it really ? Due to our size we can absorb local disturbances of a scale that would have otherwise been an emergency had these areas independent administration.

Coming to the Pakistani emergency.

I hope the Indian government has storyboarded this situation. From here, things can play out in a variety of ways. Some of these include suicidal actions that are to India’s great detriment.

The Acorn blog has been covering Pakistan related issues for a long time.

Nitin wonders what India should do in this post.

Or that India’s support for Pakistan’s territorial integrity will be reciprocated by the Pakistan Army. These may well turn out to be the case, but it’s necessary to be sure. Just as it would be imprudent to translate Schadenfreude into actions that might further destabilise Pakistan, it would be imprudent for India to engage in actions that would prove gratuitous in hindsight.

Could there be a window of opportunity for offensive action aimed to preempt the wrong material from falling into the wrong hands ?

Just hearing news on TV that several envoys are asking Musharraf to exit Pakistan immediately. This could be a rumour, but it is a scary rumour.

martial law/rule is not new to pakistan. martial rule with atomic weapons is also not new to pakistan. then what is new this time around other than the heightened coverage in indian media?

in earlier rounds, military rulers in pakistan promoted islamic fundamentalists to keep them secure in power. musharraf could well do the same eventually, though in his initial declaration he has said he is going to fight fundamentalism.

Yes, it seems to be snafu over there.

I would not have bothered a post – Nitin does a fantastic job already. The TV reports scared the hell out of me. Various envoys asking Musharraf to flee Pakistan immediately.

I hope our forces are capable of swift offensive action if this scenario were to play out.

I have a couple of drafts open : Tamilchelvans killing ( I want to comment on the analysis by B.Raman and Hariharan) – Kanimozhis recent public statements calling into question Jayas’ “Tamilness” or the absence of it.

news of musharraf under house arrest or being asked to flee were all rumours.

i think this round is being blown out of proportion by media. SNAFU it is.

there were reports in SL sites as well as that started saying LTTE gets backing from church. do you know the name of prabakaran’s son? That is a very interesting thing. FBI made one arrest of a LTTE supporter in NJ – and his fund raising events were held in churches there.

dmk family’s dravida crap is not worth a post 🙂 The whole dravida crap itself is not worth a post…

Both in the anti-Ram tirade and LTTE mourning, what is the real aim? It is the congress that gets shafted – they get asked what their stand is on Ram or that LTTE mourning thing. Could be a blackmailing tactic to get that ministry berth quick. Jaggi was of help too. how long would they just be planting trees?
